Aiming to boost navigation for readers
and PDF workflow productivity, WindJack Solutions Inc. on Monday released Version 2.0 of its
AcroButtons tool. The update improves the utility's handling and management of
buttons.
Like the earlier version, the
AcroButtons 2.0 plug-in lets authors create buttons that can improve a
document's navigation or handle repetitive tasks. A button contains an
associated JavaScript action, such as "Mail Form Data," which can then be
embedded in the document's Acrobat toolbar. Users of Acrobat and Adobe Reader on
both Mac and Windows platforms can view and use these buttons, which are
transferred along with the document. There's no need for them to install the
AcroButtons tool.
The update is compatible with Acrobat 6
as well as the recently released Acrobat 7, the Portland, Ore. company said.
Dimitri Munkirs, WindJack Solutions'
business manager, said that Acrobuttons 2.0 offers several other significant
improvements over the first version.
"In AcroButtons 1.0, you couldn't
change a button once it was embedded in a PDF unless you wanted to edit the
original in another application and re-import the button. In Version 2, you can
edit buttons even after they're in the PDF," Munkirs said
Batch processing is also new, the
executive said. The software now lets users embed toolbar buttons in many PDF
documents at once as well as add and remove JavaScript files in batches.
In addition, the tool comes with
several dozen pre-defined scripts for common actions, including linking to a Web
page, the addition of the file name to the document, flattening a form,
e-mailing a form or document, and the submission of form data. The company also
tweaked the program's user interface.
AcroButtons 2.0 requires Adobe Acrobat
6 or 7 and runs on Windows 2000 and XP. Single-user licenses are $99; the
upgrade is free to licensed holders of AcroButtons 1.
