Contrary to Neil Sedaka's lyrics, breaking up is not so hard to do. The AutoSplit 1.8 plug-in for Acrobat can split docs by page count, bookmarks, page ranges, text and element content.Beyond traditional splitting functions, AutoSplit 1.8 splits PDFs by finding and extracting pages just containing specific PDF elements such as forms, rubber stamps, links, notes and comments.
You can also apply AutoSplit in Acrobat's batch sequences for splitting multiple PDF documents all at once. AutoSplit batch sequencing can be initiated from the command line or as a batch file in the Pro version.
The plug-in automatically creates folders on disk to mirror the hierarchal structure of bookmarks within a PDF document, which reduces significantly the time spent in organizing output documents.
The product is offered in two levels, Basic and Pro. The Pro has enhanced splitting features, including split by separators, using either text patterns or blank pages. The Pro version can identify and split those pages as well.
In addition, the Pro version supports automatic creation of an HTML index file that lists all output documents and links to their locations on disk. Users can put the index file on their Web site along with PDF documents for expedient access to large document collections.
The Pro version sells for $129, and the Basic version sells for $69; both can be purchased at the company's Web site.
