Version 2.2 of the LuraDocument PDF Compressor can compress either scanned documents or existing PDFs by up to 99 percent.

For companies intent on lowering the cost and storage space associated with large file storage, LuraTech GmbH of Berlin has released Version 2.2 of its LuraDocument PDF Compressor. The PDF compressor can compress either scanned documents or existing PDFs by up to 99 percent, according to the company.

Carsten Heiermann, CEO of LuraTech, said this latest version was in development for four months prior to its release. Heiermann said: "With this release, almost any electronic document can be dramatically compressed. The software also uses the latest compression techniques, and the best implementation of JPEG2000 color images and leading version of JBIG2 for black-and-white parts of a document."

LuraDocument PDF Compressor Version 2.2 significantly reduces document storage needs, especially in cases of documents containing color images, according to Heiermann. "The compressed files retain 100 percent compatibility with all recent PDF reader software without the need for any plug-ins," Heiermann said.

The PDF Compressor is available in Server or Medium versions. The Server version automatically monitors specified directories and compresses files located within them, and files them in defined output directories. The Server version is compatible with Windows.

The LuraDocument PDF Compressor Medium version comes with a single license for the PDF conversion of 20,000 pages, and the same functionality as the Server version.
