New release gives more PDF and image viewing functionality to users.Informative Graphics Corp. has announced the release of Brava! Desktop 1.2, the new version of its multi-format view, markup and redaction software, adding several features for PDF users.
The highlights of the release are the ability to convert any of the multiple CAD, image and document formats that Brava! Desktop opens to PDF, said Gary Heath, president and CEO of Informative Graphics.
With the new release, markups can be added in Brava Desktop and saved in Brava's Content Secure Format or into PDF (annotations convert as PDF annotations). The redaction functionality has also been extended, Heath said.
"The focus for us with redaction is really a larger focus for the company and our product lines around visual content securitysomething we call Visual Rights," he said.
The redaction tool gives users the ability to block out content either interactively by word or phrase selection and the reason for the redaction can be associated to the redacted area. The blocked-out areas are burned into a new rendition of the content and sealed in the Content Secure Format, said Heath.

The CSF files can be set to expire on a specific date, watermarked and specific additional rights like the ability to print, copy, measure and republish can be restricted.
Heath said the company is also in the process of working with Sealed Media and Microsoft Rights Management Server to provide security of the file whether it is redacted or not.
With this release, the company also targeted expanding the viewing and comparing image capabilities for users.
"We've added a very cool visual compare feature that allows users to open two images or drawings and compare the visual differences between them in a number of dynamic interactive ways," said Heath.
With the Compare feature users can overlay the two images and use a slider to blend (flip) between the first file and the second. In another mode, the differences are highlighted by a different color, or the differences can be seen in a side-by-side view.
"A special aspect of Compare is to use the functionality to verify that annotations to an image or drawing have been correctly made in a new version, so annotations on an original document can be compared to an edited document to verify the edit is correct before releasing the document, image or drawing," said Heath.
Heath said the company is working on Brava Enterprise 5.3, which is designed to be deployed as a scalable solution for larger enterprises. Heath said they are bringing some of the features added to the desktop to the next version of Brava Enterprise.
Brava Desktop is available now and licensing starts at $195. The company also offers standalone and concurrent networking licenses.
