If you’re trying to disseminate a document that tracks the downloading of software for mobile devices such as Palms, PocketPCs, Smartphones, BlackBerries, and Symbian devices, it had better be an electronic format that most people can read.

Handango, the online center for downloading everything from Ms. Pac-Man to document/e-mail viewers to browsers, notes programs, and travel guides, now publishes a PDF edition of its monthly “Yardstick” that summarizes what device users are downloading what applications.

Among the nuggets found in the November issue: The palmOne Treo 600 smartphone beat all other handsets for most-downloaded content for the first time ever; and the average selling price mobile device users paid for applications jumped from $17.57 to $18.41, a record high for the past two years; and while business productivity utilities and battery-management programs remain popular, they still play second fiddle to games, MP3s, and GPS-related software.
