The PDF-driven company also reactivates text-editing feature in PitStop Professional 6.5.

Enfocus Software Inc., a provider of PDF solutions for graphic arts, recently announced it will soon release Acrobat 7 and PDF 1.6 compatible versions across its product line and that PitStop Professional 6.5 is now available to users for free download at the Enfocus Web site.

"We've been working on a compatibility release since Day One of the Acrobat 7 beta," said Sean Hiss, director of marketing for North America at Enfocus, based in San Mateo, Calif.

Hiss said the two significant aspects of the announcement are the compatibility release with Acrobat 7 in terms of not only usage, but checking and fixing new errors that may result from new features in the PDF 1.6 library, and reinstituting the PDF text editing functionality from PitStop Pro 5.0.

"Being able to fix font problems and offer advanced text editing has always been a heavily relied upon feature in PitStop Professional. We are excited to be able to reinstitute this functionality into PDF workflows while remaining compliant with Adobe licensing terms," said Hiss.

The licensing conditions of Adobe Acrobat 6.0 had forced Enfocus to restrict text editing in its PitStop Professional 6.0 version, but the company said as Adobe relaxed its licensing conditions for Acrobat 7, Enfocus was able to reactivate the feature. The company lists updated rules for the text-editing function within PitStop Professional 6.5 in the knowledge base section of its Web site.

Julie Shaffer, director of the Center for Imaging Excellence, PIA/GATF, said the embedded font-editing feature is one of the breakthrough, indispensable features that has made PitStop a critical component of PDF-for-print workflows.

As Adobe continues to refine its Acrobat product line in terms of usability and collaboration, Hiss said Enfocus remains focused on the prepress market and offering specialized features geared to empowering print professionals.

The company on its Web site also outlined enhancements and bug fixes made to PitStop Professional 6.5.
