How can I ensure my bookmarks include both number and title when I convert from Word to PDF?

How do I ensure that each time I use the Convert to PDF icon in Word that I am able to create bookmarks in the PDF file that includes both the heading number and heading title (i.e., 1.0 Introduction; 1.1 Hello, etc.)? And is there any way to make it do that by default? –Annette

You would need to create those headings in the Word document using Heading 1, Heading 2, etc., or you would have to use your own custom styles and map them to Adobe bookmarks from the Adobe PDF menu in Word. Acrobat will create the bookmarks using the text that is using the appropriate Word style, so you would have to put "1.0 Introduction" in Heading 1 to automatically have it mapped to a first-level bookmark.

To make it do that by default, you would have to put the table and figure title bookmarks in a Word Style that is mapped to a bookmark level in the Adobe PDF settings. Again, this could be one of the standard Word Heading styles or a custom style you create. If you always want the titles to show up one level below the previous section's bookmark, you might want to map it to a very low-level bookmark (e.g. level 9?) to make sure that it appears as a sub-heading in the bookmarks pane when the PDF is viewed. – Rachel
