Readers debate the best way to change the version of a PDF from 6.0 to 4.0.
I've got Acrobat Professional 6 on W2K. I'm trying to convert an
Acrobat 6 document to an Acrobat 4 document. Since there is no version choice
button in the Save As dialog box, I seem forced to do a complicated
batch-processing maneuver to get the version change. Is there an easier way? –Owen

To convert a PDF file to Acrobat 4, 5 or 6 compatibility, you must have
Acrobat 6.0 (Standard or Professional). Simply Select File > Reduce File Size
> Select Desired Compatible Format > OK To batch process a large number of
documents using this procedure consider using PDF Reducer (it automates this procedure). –Steven Harris
Please do NOT use Reduce File Size - use PDF Optimizer
(from the Advanced menu and set it for 4.0) instead! Reduce File Size, as has
been reported by a number of people (starting with Shlomo Perets), does some
nasty, unexpected things to your PDF that can damage it and make it unusable. –Leonard
Rosenthol
I'm glad you pointed that out as I just finished trying
the Reduce file size option, the result was the image in the pdf was removed. – Greg Onder
You can also use the Advanced>Batch Processing...
Fast Web View and change the settings in Fast Web View to the desired PDF
version, just like the Reduce File Size procedure. It's dreamy (sigh). –James Miller
