The new plug-in converts color data within Adobe Acrobat documents.

Callas Software GmbH of Berlin has introduced the pdfColorConvert plug-in for Adobe Systems Inc.'s Acrobat 6 and 7.

The utility aims to make it easier for users to prepare their PDF files for color-matching output, according to the company. It does not require an extensive level of color management knowledge for color matching.

The plug-in converts RGB/Lab data and determines colors within PDF documents for boosted color-matching output. Callas officials said that the tool was designed for users at prepress agencies and print offices. They touted the tool's ease of use and economical price.

The plug-in comes preconfigured with input and output profiles for easy installation. It also allows for the option of importing individual output files and has a reporting feature for documenting conversion processes.

According to Callas, this release also includes a Recall option that helps save time when it comes to processing repetitive jobs; it identifies former settings from prior jobs that may be applicable to current spot color conversions. There is also a reporting feature that documents the process conversion in regard to the PDF document.

The pdfColorConvert utility is compatible with Adobe Acrobat 6 and 7, as well as Windows 2000/XP and Mac OS X. The introductory price for the tool, which is valid until April 30, is 249 euro ($335).
