In a pair of announcements, Australian PDF software vendor ARTS PDF introduced Stratify, a plug-in that gives Acrobat layer-editing features found in high-end production applications such as InDesign and FreeHand.

Furthermore, the company became the first third-party developer to announce compatibility of its plug-ins with Acrobat 7; customers who purchase ARTS products now will get a free upgrade when Acrobat 7 ships.

"ARTS PDF is excited about Acrobat 7.0 and the leap forward that it represents. The number of PDF documents created and exchanged across the world looks set to grow even faster once the new Acrobat family becomes available," says Gary Armstrong, ARTS PDF sales vice-president. "As a result, there's now an even greater need for advanced tools that help professional users prepare high quality electronic documents."
