There are plenty of solutions for working with PDFs on Palm, Symbian, Pocket PC and BlackBerry OSes.

What do you do when you're on the go, under deadline, and you still need to review that last PDF file before it goes to print? Take a look below at some good PDF viewing solutions for mobile devices.

Adobe Reader

If you're just interested in reading PDFs, look no further than the free Adobe Reader for Symbian OS, Palm OS and Pocket PC mobile devices. Although Adobe doesn't provide direct technical support for the software, it does offer the Adobe Reader for Mobile Devices User to User Forum.

But if you're looking to do more than just read PDFs on your Palm, Treo or BlackBerry, there are quite a few solutions to consider.

Palm OS

DataViz's recently released Documents to Go Premium Edition Version 8.0 for Palm OS added support for native PDF files and is compatible with Palm OS handhelds including Treo 650 and Tungsten X.

Documents to Go Premium Edition lets you not only view PDFs, but also other file types including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Documents to Go Premium Edition 8.0 gives users PDF viewing support for embedded graphics, tables, zooming options, page layout and word-wrap views. It does not require preprocessing of PDF files from the desktop or conversion for mobile viewing.

It's priced at $49.99, and for existing customers the upgrade pricing is $29.99. The Documents to Go product line also includes support for the Symbian OS-based UIQ and Symbian OS-based Series 80 platforms.

BlackBerry

If you're a BlackBerry devotee trying to boost real-time viewing and collaboration capability for fellow staff, clients or graphic design team members, then check out Terratial's DocHawk subscription-based service.

With DocHawk, BlackBerry subscribers forward an e-mail with the attached document to the DocHawk server, then other team members or staff also receive a link specifying the document's location and how to retrieve it.

The service also gives BlackBerry users not only viewing capability for standard PDFs, but they can also view scanned PDFs or special-character PDFs like logos. The service also offers four zoom-viewing levels for users, unlike Adobe's free mobile reader solutions.

In addition, DocHawk's Web-based solution gives users image viewing power for not only PDF-based files, but also Microsoft PowerPoint, MS Word, RTF, JPEG, PNG and GIF files.

DocHawk is compatible with all color BlackBerry models. The cost of the service is $39.95 yearly. The service also enables viewing of eFax (TIFF), jConnect (JFX), MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and JPEG, PNG and GIF files.

Symbian OS

If you're carrying around a Nokia or similar Symbian OS-based device, then you might want to take a gander at mBrainsoftware's Pdf+ for viewing PDF files with Nokia Series 60 smartphones, including Nokia 6660, Nokia 3650, Nokia 7610 and the Siemens SX1.

Pdf+ viewer lets you view stored PDF files, read password-protected PDF files, and display all the text, line drawings and images within a PDF file. In addition, users can view and follow bookmarks, and search and follow hyperlinks in the PDF file.

The Documents to Go product line by DataViz, mentioned above, also includes support for the Symbian OS-based UIQ and Symbian OS-based Series 80 platforms.

Pocket PC

RepliGo Professional from Cerience Corp. offers support for PDF, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. Users can perform text searches and use advanced features such as comment fields and bookmarks. Pricing for the subscription-based solution starts at $29.95 for a three-month subscription.

And finally if you're looking for a good solution that works for multiple mobile devices, then take a look at Picsel Technologies Ltd.'s Piscel File Viewer, which lets mobile device users view file types including MS Word, PowerPoint, JPEGs, PDFs and flash animations. The viewer works with Symbian OS, Palm OS and MS PocketPC/WinCE.Net/smartphones.
