Ebrary's application offers users PDF submission tools and meta-tagging features that enable searching by index key words, phrases and images within a file.ebrary announced the launch of its hosted application service ebrary OnDemand, targeted at libraries and publishers who want to manage and distribute their PDF content online.
The Palo, Alto-based ebrary's hosted offering is powered by the ebrary Dynamic Content Platform and provides a way for companies to archive, manage and distribute digital content in PDF form.
"We believe our platform can help address both the needs of libraries, who need a cost effective way to archive and disseminate important information they are digitizing, and publishers that need to market and sell their titles online," said David Bass, senior vice-president of Sales and Marketing for ebrary.
ebrary OnDemand offers users PDF submission tools, and meta-tagging features that enable end-user search features by index key words, phrases and images within a file.
In addition, OnDemand has its own search engine which supports full-text, keyword, Boolean and proximity searching.
OnDemand also provides reporting capabilities including statistics on how each page of content is used.
The ebrary Reader is also available to users, enabling them to highlight and annotate documents as well as save the bookmarks and highlighted notes on a Personal Bookshelf.
ebrary Reader also features tools for copying and pasting text into Word, HTML or e-mail with automatic bibliographical citation and a URL hyperlink to the original source.
The OnDemand hosted platform also gives users the ability to sell the digital content online under several different business models, including subscription, or perpetual access collections, according to the company.
