TechEd, FormRouter Settle Dispute

Competing vendors make an out-of-court deal where both continue on; the terms are undisclosed.

FormRouter and TechEd Solutions settled a legal dispute outside the courtroom earlier in January, PDFzone has learned. According to Jim Healy, FormRouter CTO, the settlement was financial in nature, although both sides are bound not to disclose more information as part of the terms.

Last fall, the North Carolina-based FormRouter sued TechEd—the Nebraska-based host of the PDF Central Conference—over TechEd's UltimatePDF forms service. In launching UltimatePDF, FormRouter claimed TechEd breached a previous VAR agreement it had signed with FormRouter.

FormRouter won a motion for a temporary restraining order against TechEd on Oct. 26 in Wake County (N.C.) Superior Court, which temporarily shut down UltimatePDF. The court denied FormRouter's request for a preliminary injunction Nov. 17.

Both FormRouter and Ultimate PDF collect data through forms for its customers, massaging the information in a user-friendly way to feed it into customer databases with less programming than creating a similar system from scratch.

"We are happy to have a resolution that adequately addresses our concerns and resolves our outstanding issues with TechEd Solutions," FormRouter CEO Chris Pieper said in a statement on the company's Web site.
