Callas Software has updated its pdfCorrect software, a tool that enables businesses to correct PDF files before they are sent out to printers. Callas Software GmbH announced April 20 that its pdfCorrector has been updated to give enterprises the ability to embed fonts in existing PDF files, helping to reduce the amount of errors caused by missing or incorrect font characters.
Callas Software's pdfCorrect, available as a plug-in for Adobe Acrobat 6, 7 and 8, is used to correct PDF files before they are sent out to the printing house. The PDF tool is able to find up to 60 different typical errors that might prove to be troublesome during printing such as incorrect overprint settings, defective image resolution and unwanted embedded ICC profiles.
"With the possibility of creating PDF files in such applications as Microsoft Word, Indesign or Photoshop, the creator on his PC is responsible for non-professional printing copies but this doesn't really help the printing house," Michael Nuncic, spokesperson for the Germany-based Callas Software, told eWEEK.
Nuncic says that the ability to embed fonts in existing PDF files will be beneficial for businesses.
"This is extremely important for printing since sometimes, documents from clients that are sent to the printing house lack certain characters of a font and the font is only embedded into the PDF in part," Nuncic explained. "With our solution, if the user has the whole font type on his or her computer, pdfCorrect can solve the problem in a matter of seconds."
The new update allows users to utilize the PDF correction tool to integrate more than one different language version in a single PDF file but to only release the language that is relevant for the recipients while also enabling users to flatten invisible and unwanted layers to reduce the file size.
Callas also updated its pdfCorrect CLI (command line version), which allows for automated correction of PDF files and integration into existing workflows. This enables PDF corrections to be made quickly and effectively.
"It is crucial to have a tool that can correct typical problems in the later printout process," Nuncic said.
The new version of CLI also features automated changing or flattening of the visibility of layers, which allows for the automated removal of crop marks.
Both pdfCorrect versions are available now as pricing depends on the number of user licenses a consumer needs.
