The enterprisewide server solution gives users automated, high-speed conversion of documents to PDF and several other file formats.Bluebeam Software this week launched its enterprisewide server solution, Bluebeam Conversion Server.
"This solution is ideal for medium and large companies that share and archive PDF files," said Don Jacob, vice president of engineering at Pasadena, Calif.-based Bluebeam Software Inc. "It is a suite of tools that drives our already existing programs and plug-ins."
"One of the significant features in the release is the configuration options that are accessible to the user," Jacob said in an interview with PDFzone. "They include page-size customization, file property transfer, hyperlink transfer, automated PDF bookmarking, PDF text stamping and watermarking."
The solution lets companies convert an unlimited number of documents to PDF and nine other file formats, including TIFF, JPEG, GIF and BMP.
Unlike other server solutions available in the market, Bluebeam Conversion Server converts from native filessuch as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Projectand not just from postscript files. Jacob noted that the solution does convert from postscript files as well, if a customer needs that functionality.
Another of the system's features is that companies can set up an unlimited number of watched directories, each with a unique configuration for each specific document.
Jacob said the solution stemmed from a strong demand from existing customers who wanted an enterprisewide server solution. "The intention of this release was for it to be highly customizable for our clients," he said.
"It was specifically designed toward medium to large companies that have systems in place and wanted a powerful conversion solution that is integrated with their document management. We took a lot of the features from the workstation solutions and incorporated them into a server-based solution," Jacob said.
"And unlike other competitors in the field, Bluebeam does not restrict the number of users that can access the Bluebeam Conversion Server," said Cathy Kim, director of marketing at Bluebeam Software.
"It's a more economical alternative to some of the existing server products in the market," Kim said.
For one server, pricing starts at $2,999 with a $900 annual maintenance cost for the first year. After the first year, customers have the option of renewing the maintenance agreement.
