Acrobat was the only remaining Adobe product that did not have a dedicated user community.Adobe quietly unveiled its Adobe Acrobat user community Feb. 14 at
acrobatusers.com.
The site, which is edited by PDFzone contributor Kurt Foss, is intended to serve as a resource and learning center for the diverse community of PDF users.
"The idea is to bring Acrobat users together, to interact with each other, to learn and to share best practices," said Pooja Goyal, product marketing manager for Acrobat and Breeze.

Acrobat, which has been an Adobe product for 12 years, was the last remaining Adobe product without an Adobe-sponsored user community. Some observers have suggested that this was because Acrobat's users are spread across all industries and therefore don't share similar problems and interests.
"Based on the response [to the user community] we've had so far," said Goyal, "we feel like people want to work together. ... There's a common set of uses for Acrobat for which different types of users can come together."
Site features include a user group chapter map showcasing the various locations of user groups, both in the continental United States and in Europe. Users of the site can join user groups or start their own.
Goyal said different user groups tend to focus on different Acrobat feature sets. The Washington, D.C., user group, Goyal said, focuses on security and government processes, while other user groups may focus more on prepress features.
Acrobatusers.com offers a Learning Center with tips, tutorials and video demonstrations on Acrobat features.
The Acrobat Resources section of the site includes links to Adobe-approved developers, books on Acrobat, training resources and plug-ins.
The site also launched with a selection of six articles, including a Q&A with Adobe's director of product marketing, Ricky Liversidge.
Currently, the site offers a blogs area with links to current Adobe employee blogs. Foss says the site will offer users the ability to start their own blogs soon.
