The new software ensures that print hardware can output complex PDFs.

Adobe Systems on April 3 announced new software that ensures print hardware can output complex PDF files.

The software, called Adobe PDF Print Engine, allows PDF files to be rendered natively without the need for flattening and allows print jobs to remain device-independent across the workflow by capturing process information from both JDF (Job Definition Format) and PDF files, according to the company.

The software will allow late-stage content corrections, enable repurposing jobs for output on different printing systems and provide on-screen, high-resolution previews driven by the same rendering engine as final stage RIPs (Raster Image Processors), according to Adobe.

Adobe officials said the company is providing the Adobe PDF Print Engine as a software development kit for OEMs.
