The Scientific Software/Kyberpass solution will give organizations the ability to "cyber-notarize" intellectual property.Enterprise content management solutions provider Scientific Software Inc. has partnered with security software applications company Kyberpass Inc. to deliver a joint digital signature solution that supports the Secure-Access-for-Everyone industry standard.
The SAFE standard is promoted and funded by SAFE-BioPharma, a powerful coalition of pharmaceutical and government heavy hitters, whose goal is to define a new digital standard for addressing the mandates of the Food and Drug Administration's 21 CFR Part 11, the EMEA (European Medicines Agency) and the national regulatory authorities around the world. With the announcement, Scientific Software, of Pleasanton, Calif., referenced both its and Canada-based Kyberpass' long-term commitment to bring this tool to the market.
Eric Perry, vice president of marketing for Scientific Software's ECM product, said that the joint solution is in response to support of SAFE and the demand for this type of solution in the marketplace.
"The pharma-space is very competitive, and what they're able to do with this solution is to digitally sign the research and development data," Perry told PDFzone. And since it's SAFE-enabled with a third-party organization, it becomes the equivalent of a digital notary public stamp. By digitally signing them and storing the content, there is always proof that the intellectual property was not only there but exactly when it was there."
Perry noted that in the R&D arena within government agenciespharmaceutical companies, for exampleit's important to be able to prove the timeline in regard to invention or discovery, as many companies are often devoting themselves to similar research and it adds a level of proof to the R&D timeline.
"The pharmaceutical market is the first market for this technology, but this tool will ultimately be for really any company that wants to protect their intellectual property," he said. "With this joint solution, we have the content-generated backbone and the content is digitally signed and then goes through Kyberpass and then Kyberpass funnels out. The digital signature becomes part of the document in our system index, and it's fully traceable using audit trails of any document in our system."
The solution's integration as outlined in the release includes the following:
The Scientific Software Enterprise Content Manager;
The Scientific Software SAFE eSignature Plug-in for Kyberpass, a secure plug-in allowing end users to electronically sign and notarize documents via the Kyberpass Trust Platform; and
Kyberpass TrustPlatform, a standards-based security framework for identity verification between the Scientific Software ECM repository and a standards-based PKI (public key infrastructure) trust infrastructure.
Thomas Nolan, president and CEO of Kyberpass, said in a statement, "Our integrated solution with Scientific Software ECM platform is the first commercially available solution to help streamline document collaboration workflows and unify user identity across business critical applications."
