Hamrick Software has released an upgraded version of its VueScan scanning software that features several enhancements.

VueScan 8.1.36 allows users to create single or multipage PDF files directly from the scanner, according to the Phoenix-based company.

Some of the feature enhancements include an improved user interface with support for raw files for 142 digital cameras and 414 scanners; boosted scanner calibration for Microtek and Umax scanners; and better display capabilities.

Both professional and amateur photographers use VueScan to produce clearer digital images from negatives, slides, or color snapshots, according to Hamrick. For users who find Adobe Acrobat 7.0 or comparative products cost-prohibitive, the company touts its product as a good, economical alternative.

VueScan runs on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. For single-user licenses, the Standard Edition is $49.95 and the Professional Edition is $89.95. Multi-user licenses are also available.
