The product family's Version 1.30, now officially released, includes new products and tools that extract content, optimize PDF documents and convert image files.3-Heights Product Family, Version 1.30, which has been available as a pre-release up until now, has been officially released by PDF Tools AG. It is also making available the pre-release Version 1.40.
PDF Tools is a company that provides programming technology around Adobe Acrobat PDFs.
It provides server-based software products designed specifically for developers, integrators, consultants and customizing specialists.
Several new products and new functions have been introduced with Version 1.30, including:
3-Heights PDF Optimization Tool: can optimize PDF documents for size, fast Web viewing and high-quality printing. Specific areas being optimized are fonts, images and redundant information.
3-Heights PDF Extract Shell Tool: can extract content (extract text, extract images) and retrieve information out of a PDF document.
3-Heights Image to PDF Converter: converts images into PDF documents. For example, it converts TIFF, JPEG or BMP to PDF. The converter can also convert image files into image files of a different format, and split and merge multi-page files.
3-Heights PDF Security Tool: used to encrypt PDF documents and set permissions on PDF documents.
JBIG2 and JPEG2000 Encode and Decode Filters
Fast CMYK to RGB conversion using Neugebauer equations
Subsetting of all font types that are used
Vertical writing fonts
Compatibility mode to support older printer drivers
Codecs for TIFF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, PBM, JBIG2, JPEG2000
"From this new release, we're excited about all the features," said Roger Reeves, marketing manager for PDF Tools. "We get a lot of demand for the image to PDF converter, and we've now made it a lot more reliable."
Another tool that's a part of the suite, but had already been available, is so popular it accounts for 25 percent of downloads for PDF Tools, according to Reeves.
The 3-Heights PDF Desktop Repair Tool is a user product that can analyze PDF documents, repair PDF files and recover information from corrupt PDF files.
"Another tool that just sees so much download activity is for extraction," said Reeves. "Lawyer offices are big customers. If a PDF is corrupt, they can analyze it and they can use that a lot."
No further updates will be offered in Version 1.30 as all future improvements and bug fixes will be implemented in the pre-release Version 1.40.
Detailed information about the new products and improvements in the 3-Heights Version 1.30 can be read in the release notes, here in PDF format, that are available on the company Web site.
The main features added in Pre-Release Version 1.40:
GDI+ rendering "gives a super quality" with image and fonts
Windows NT4, Windows 98 compatibility expanded to all products
Anti-aliasing for graphics (lines, rectangles, etc.)"Won't get lines bouncing around."
Filtering and interpolation of raster images
Introducing an improvement to PDF converter tools. The 3-Heights PDF to TIFF, PDF to GIF, PDF to JPEG, PDF to PNG, PDF to BMP and PDF to PDF Imager Converters have been combined into one single product.
"Most people don't use more than one of our current converter tools, but if they do want more than one, now they don't have to buy a separate tool," Reeves said.
According to Reeves, although more features will be added as the year progresses, the final release Version 1.40 won't be out until the end of the year. "We'll be adding a PDF creator tool and adding an OCR engine to TIFF to PDF conversion so that you can scan it and make it text-searchable."
"We're adding some interesting features," said Reeves.
