Visual Technology's PDF3D software development kit is now available in its newest version, 1.2.1, enabling enterprises to generate 3-D PDF files and U3D specification files.

Visual Technology Services, a software product provider, has released its PDF3D SDK (software development kit) version 1.2.1, a configurable software development toolkit that provides enterprises with direct generation of 3-D PDF files and U3D specification files.

PDF3D SDK, launched in July of 2006, allows ISVs (independent software vendors) to control Adobe's PDF capabilities while also providing a delivery platform for 3D content. Version 1.2.1 builds off of PDF3D SDK and adds features such as new interfaces to several existing 3-D graphics frameworks including VTK, AVS/Express, Coin3D and Open Inventor.

"The new interfaces significantly ease integration efforts and allow developing custom workflows and server configuration systems," Ian Curington, CEO of the United Kingdom-based Visual Technology Services, told eWEEK.

The new version also supports Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platforms allowing users to share 3-D snapshots of content and organize and integrate different phases of a product's lifecycle using Adobe Acrobat, which will enable users to export to standard 3-D formats.

"This version is designed for business users, especially enterprises with complex 3-D information and a need to share, communicate and collaborate with team members to make commercial design decisions," Curington said.

Version 1.2.1 will also support non-complex tools such as Adobe Reader, which allows users to view and manipulate 3-D content.

"Support for non-complex tools to view and manipulate 3-D content allows companies to shift away from traditional models of PLM, and moving towards leveraging the proven value of embedded interactive 3-D solutions directly within reports and project documents for more effective decision making and accelerated product development," Curington said.

The release is available immediately, where trial versions are available for download.
