Server software enabled government, corporate clients to redact names, other text from large numbers of PDF documents prior to public release.

Government agencies and companies who must comply with privacy regulations while making some of their PDF documents public according to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) sometimes must redact--or remove certain sensitive text--from their documents.

Appligent, whose Redax redaction tool has been available for the desktop since 1996, announced this week Redax Enterprise Server 1.1, which takes that desktop functionality to the server to automatically redact documents based on predefined lists developed by the user.

“Redax Enterprise Server is geared towards government agencies and our OEM partners. Using a server-based solution allows agencies to pre-process large quantities of documents by marking up keywords or phrases based on their predefined lists,” says Virginia Gavin, president of Appligent. “FOIA specialists then can access these marked up documents and continue the redaction process. This provides significant time savings in high volume settings.”
